Paper.

The second installment of my Dedicated Follower of Fashion process: paper cut outs.

After pouring over this amazing book of children's illustrators I thought I might make the animation completely D.I.Y. and handmade. I was particularly inspired by Istvan Schritter and so decided to make a mod girl (Twiggy, pretty much) and a mod guy/potential Dedicated Follower of Fashion. I also experimented with how to create a set, I have included some iterations for the Carnaby Street set idea. There is a lyric stating that the Dedicated Follower of Fashion 'thinks he is a flower' and the visualisation of this is also included.

Here is some of the results from that before I decided against it.

Additionally, I experimented with what these would look like as animations and made quick GIFs.

Dedicated Follower of Fashion.

I hinted at it a little while ago - I've been working on an exciting personal and self-divised project.
I've wanted to try and make an animation for a while now. After attending these two conferences in, respectively, November and December last year, I became especially keen to give it a go.
The final 'kick' to start it was when listening to The Kinks's Dedicated Follower of Fashion - I suddenly decided this had to be the song I animated.

Over the next month I will be posting regular updates from the process.

Here's the first installment: The very initial development of characters.

More. More. More.

A recent infatuation with the purple/yellow colour combination resulted in this:

Brooches project.

Alison Phillips and I have been wanting to (and talking about) collaborating for a while now. We finally got together and spent a day and a bit making a collection of brooches out of balsa wood and papier mache clay.

Here's some initial sketches:

Quite a lot of time was spent perfecting the smoothness of the wood:

Fireworks.

I have been working busily on an exciting project, some of which I will begin to post in the next week or so.
In the meantime, here is a little watercolour 'fireworks' piece I made a short time ago.
